Libraries across the UK will be today be raising a glass of Frobscottle to celebrate the official Roald Dahl Day.
- Roald Dahl Day takes place every year on the 13th September on the birthday of Roald Dahl, one of the world’s best-selling authors and arguably one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century.
- This year coincides with the 30 year anniversary of the BFG
Across the country libraries will be celebrating the day, from a BFG puppet making session at Litchfield Library in Staffordshire to a fancy dress Whizzpopping BFG Party at Wokingham Library. Many libraries like Newcastle City Library will also be holding Roald Dahl storytimes for local children and adults.
Commenting on the day Janene Cox, President of the Society of Chief Librarians said:
‘Roald Dahl is a hugely important figure within children’s literature. His quirky imagination has inspired generations to read and share stories.
Within libraries he has generated millions of loans and enabled children to discover the joy of reading for pleasure.
Today is a great opportunity to mark this tremendous achievement.”
