Computers Don’t Bite

When Dave was made redundant from a long term job, he suffered a heart attack. Very quickly he became depressed by his situation. A friend convinced him to re-train and he found a new set of skills at his local library in Tipton.

Dave found himself being made redundant from his long-term job with BP, simultaneously, possibly due to the stress of the redundancy, he suffered a heart attack. Poor health, no prospect of employment, depression took a hold.

Living in a small town called Tipton in the Black Country (Dudley, West Midlands), his life seemed to be at an all time low. A friend suggested he might want to perhaps re-train at the local college by trying the Learn Direct Courses they offered. Not keen to “go back to the classroom” Dave found that he could do the same course at his local library.

“Computers Don’t Bite” turned out to be the first of many that Dave would study at his local library. His story however, doesn’t end here. Life has seen him adopt an abandoned owl, (name it Steffi after the Dudley Library staff member who originally taught him how to make his first clicks with a mouse!). He is now working with a doctor at the local hospital writing a book based on other people’s stories of recuperating from illness thanks to their animals. He has learnt to build a website to devote to his beloved owl and he last year attended several other branches of Dudley Libraries telling his story.
