Janene Cox appointed as member of Government’s e-lending review panel

Janene Cox, President of the Society of Chief Librarians, has this morning been appointed as a member of the Government’s e-lending review panel.

Commenting on the announcement, Janene said:

“Lending e-books and audio downloads is already an important part of the offer for many public libraries and it does offer a great new way for people to access library services through the web and their mobile devices.

“I don’t believe that they will replace printed books or other information sources totally but they will complement and enhance them.

“A fundamental aspect of the Public Libraries role is to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to access reading – and we need to ensure that our service reflects the changing way that people want to read and also engage with local services.

“The provision of a good selection of ebooks will mean that we are widening access, potentially generating new audiences and importantly staying in touch with the changing ways in which people interact with society, services and reading via technology.”
