Residents in North Yorkshire enjoy a pint with their books
The George and Dragon pub in Hudswell in North Yorkshire is a community run establishment offering beer, pork scratchings and now books!
The new library service located in the George and Dragon was opened on the 12th June by local MP and Foreign Secretary William Hague. It is run by local volunteers who will manage approximately 300 books (which will be refreshed regularly) and access to computers for local residents. The new library also supports Hudswell book club, further cementing this facility in the heart of the community.
This new service paves the way for further new and innovative ways to bring library services to communities and a number of options are now being considered by North Yorkshire County Council. These include bringing library facilities to existing venues such as village halls and community centres.
