SCL supports Race Online 2012
The Society of Chief Librarians is delighted to support Race Online 2012.
Public libraries are local information services that play an important role in empowering local communities by supporting people to access online public services.
The People’s Network, available in all public libraries, is a largely free community internet service which provides an important safety net for those without digital access at home. A network of 30,000 PCs which is available for extended hours, including weekends and evenings, in a trusted space in the heart of communities.
Public libraries have a strong record in supporting people to get online but we want to go further in partnership with race online 2012 to improve the life chances of the 10 million people in the UK who are currently offline and in particular the 4 million of these who are also socially excluded.
The Society of Chief Librarians pledge that the public library network will support 500,000 people to get online by the end of 2012
